Changing the Face of Medicine

The Memphis Public Library & Information Center is one of 61 libraries from across the U.S. selected to host the “Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America’s Women Physicians,” interactive, multimedia traveling exhibition that honors the lives and achievements of American women in medicine – past and present. The exhibit will be at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar, May 29 – July 9. An opening reception is scheduled Friday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend the reception.

We have created a Flickr gallery to present the faces of medicine in Memphis.  We will be adding to this gallery as we collect images of both the present and future faces of medicine in our city, so check back often.

“Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America’s Women Physicians” was developed by the Exhibition Program of the History of Medicine Division of the National Library of Medicine in collaboration with the American Library Association Public Programs Office. The traveling exhibition has been made possible by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health Office of Research on Women’s Health. The American Medical Women’s Association provided additional support.
