German Heritage Collection

The German Heritage Collection, the first collection to be processed and digitized simultaneously, is now accessible in the archive.

The German Heritage Collection is a combination of several individual collections and items that have been donated to the library over the years. Combined, the items in the collection offer a glimpse at the lives of first- and second-generation German immigrants in Memphis as well as the impact this group had upon Memphis in the 19th and 20th centuries.  A few letters, like this one, also give us a glimpse at life in post-WWII Germany.

TRANSLATOR NEEDED – Many of the items in this collection are in German and have yet to be translated.  If you are interested in providing a translation, please contact us using the information in the right-hand column.
